Introduce yourself! Who are you? My name is Rebecka. I’m a recent graduate from high school and I currently run an art shop over at my website Rebeckawahl.comand on my Estywhere I sell my own watercolor prints. I’m also a freelance writer, and a content creator on Instagram. On top of that, I’m preparing to release a podcast about social media with my sister Gabi.
As you might notice, I’m a bit all over the place. I’m not yet entirely sure what to pursue or do with my life. But I know that these are things I love to do, and hopefully I can continue doing them.
Did you always know what you wanted to do as a career? I’ve never known 100% what career I wanted to pursue. When I was younger I really wanted to be an actress, and I still enjoy theatre but I don’t know if that’s the path for me. My issues have often been that I’m passionate about so many things that it’s hard to choose one to pursue. Despite that, I’ve always been eager to work for myself, which is one of the reasons I’m currently a freelance writer, artist, and a content creator. It allows me to work for myself and do something creative while still making a living.
Were you scared to start the process? Yes. But the fear of missing out on an opportunity scared me more.
Have you ever had anyone doubt you? My mother and my two sisters believe in me and have always been supportive. But except for them, most people around me doubt me. I’m eighteen and I graduated from high school half a year ago so most people in my environment don’t trust that I can make it as an artist, writer, and content creator at all. I feel like people around expect me to drop it soon and move on.
What message do you think every woman should hear? Please be gentle with yourself. You don’t need to live up to anyone else’s expectations or opinions of you if it doesn’t feel right.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way? That just because you’re working hard doesn’t mean you won’t fail. Not everything is going to turn out the way you want it to, and if something doesn’t work out, move on. No amount of pondering will change the past.
What motivates you most? I have unlimited amount of energy and patience to work on things I love. I love art for example, so though I’ve had plenty of obstacles I’m going to keep pursuing it. I honestly think that if you’re working towards something you love then you’ll enjoy the journey and you’ll have all the motivation you need.
How do you manage your work-life balance? I’m trying to stop working after around 7pm. But I’m a workaholic and I always find a way to work to the point where I’m exhausted and need to relax for a few days. It’s not a good work-life balance, and it’s something I need to work on.
If you weren’t doing the job you have now, what would you be doing? I don’t think I could do anything else than what I do now. When I feel like something is wrong for me, I get extremely anxious and stressed. I just can’t do it.
