Introduce yourself! Who are you?
Hi! My name is Rachel, and I’m a 24 year old baking blogger living in San Diego. I’ve run my baking website,, for over SEVEN years now (which is crazy to me), since way back when I was in high school. Over the years, my recipes have evolved along with my eating habits, and these days, all the goodies I create are gluten-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free, to reflect the diet that makes me feel my best! I LOVE to travel and try to get to a new country every year, I love yoga and long walks, and I’ve got a precious little mutt puppy named Hank that I adopted on December 30th.

What is one thing no one really knows about you?
I haven’t spoken much about this topic on my blog, but Bakerita came out of my being pretty severely depressed. I started baking a TON when I was in a deep depression at 16 years old and needed a creative outlet. Baking took me out of my head, and gave me something to focus on. As I started developing my own recipes, my sister encouraged me to share them online. Though my depression continued and I had a pretty rough junior and senior year of high school, having Bakerita as an outlet in which to write and share recipes really helped me navigate through it and come out ahead. Because of that struggle, I like to believe that there is something great waiting after every hardship.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
My dad encouraging me to “just try it for three months and see what happens” - referring to me going full time with Bakerita right after graduating college. He encouraged me to try it out before I started applying for “real jobs”, knowing I had just enough in my savings to make it work and that it would be that much harder to to try it once I had a steady income. It’s been almost three years since then, and I haven’t looked back!

What would you say to 16 year old you?
16 was a turning point for me - it was a year where I struggled with some pretty major depression, but it is also the year I started Bakerita. I would tell my 16-year-old self to just keep going, to learn as much as you can about yourself and your passions, and to let what you know is right for you guide you through life, even if others are pulling you in another direction.

What message do you think every woman should hear?
You are strong, you are beautiful, and you are capable of doing anything it is you put your mind to. Remember to be grateful and show love to the people around you, and good things will come back your way.

What is your favorite thing about where you live?
My family is close by, and I can be on some of the world’s most beautiful beaches in less than 20 minutes. Also, it’s healthy food galore here in San Diego, with year round farmers markets!

What do you love most about yourself?
My tenacity. I wouldn’t be where I am today, doing what I love, if I didn’t have the drive and the stubbornness to know in my heart that the path I was taking was the right one. I was (and am) excited and passionate about my journey, and that passion and excitement translated into the creation of a career I LOVE.

Why do you love to travel?
I believe it’s so very true when people say that travel is the only thing you can buy that will make you richer, and I was blessed to grow up with parents who believed the same thing and traveled the world with my sister and I from a young age. Traveling has truly expanded my worldview and how I think about things, and it’s a constant source of passion and motivation. I’ve been blessed to travel to over 30 countries in my life, and in each one, the culture, the food, and the people have changed me, little by little, opening my eyes to worlds beyond the one I live my day-to-day in. Traveling taught me to be adventurous, to be okay doing things by myself, to trust my intuition, and to trust in the universe to present me with the lessons I most need to learn.

What is your favorite meal?
I’m a health-conscious carb lover, so probably some sort of gluten-free pasta with pesto, greens, roasted broccoli, and dairy-free cheese on top. Or PIZZA (with dairy-free cheese, please)! I also love a good salad. All about balance 🙂

What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
Yoga, meditation, and I’ve been trying to do some morning writing lately, but my little pup Hank hasn’t been letting me get too far with that last one - I’m lucky to get a few sentences down before he starts barking for my attention! Also, spending time with my family, because they’re the people I can go to with my problems and concerns, and they’ll help me work through them to be a better me tomorrow.

What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?
I’m a total introvert. People don’t seem to realize this when they’re watching me on Instagram stories or even meeting me in real life, but I’m a major homebody and speaking in front of lots of people TERRIFIES me. Even for Instagram stories, I have to pretend just a few of my friends are watching or I’d never have the courage to put my face on there!

If you weren’t doing the job you have now, what would you be doing?
That’s hard, because I absolutely ADORE what I do currently and can’t imagine doing anything else…but if I had to choose something else, I’d love to own a healthy coffee shop/cafe. Hopefully that will be a reality at some point in my life, in addition to what I do now!

What is something on your bucket list?
Visiting Iceland and writing a cookbook. Hopefully both will be checked off the list soon!
Where do you find inspiration?
I get lots of inspiration from the farmer’s market, because I love to cook with what’s local and seasonal, and my fellow foodies are big sources of inspiration as well! I love seeing totally unhealthy desserts and transforming them into clean treats.
