Introduce yourself! Who are you?
Hey, my name is Morgan Mitchell and I am an Australian Olympian (Track and Field).
What is one thing no one really knows about you?
That I have a tattoo on the inside of my lip… The reactions I get from people when they find out for the first time is hilarious.
What would you say to 16 year old you?
“You’re doing great honey” Haha, kidding. I would honestly probably tell my 16 year old self to relax with my sister’s fake ID and to quit with the daily jam filled donuts, they’re getting me nowhere.
What is your greatest fear?
Waking up one day and becoming allergic to peanut butter. I also have a fear of heights and the dark, yuck.
Have you ever had anyone doubt you? How did that make you feel?
Yeah, all of the time both on and off the track. I don’t really care anymore, it just motivates me to do better. If they don’t want to be a part of my journey, that’s cool.
What message do you think every woman should hear?
That they are enough and that they shouldn’t be told how to live and think. We are all different and that is the beauty in being human.
What is your favorite thing about where you live?
I live in Melbourne, Australia. I love the city’s versatility. We host some pretty big sporting events such as the Australian Open, Grand Prix, etc. We also attract big names for concerts and festivals, we have amazing street art and awesome food… It’s just impossible to get bored. I love it.
What do you love most about yourself?
My ability to make people smile. Giving good energy is a good feeling and I’m all for it. If we are speaking aesthetics then I think I love my teeth, they are straight and I have never had braces. Actually, my bottom teeth are a bit uneven or whatever so let’s just stick with my top half haha.
What is the biggest thing you’ve learned along the way?
That you need to make yourself happy first, people pleasing for other people’s own benefit and greed will get you nowhere in the long run.
Why do you love to travel?
Because I get to learn about other cultures, visit cool cities and meet some amazing people with incredible stories. Travelling teaches you a lot about yourself and the world, I always come home feeling grateful for what I have and where I live.
How do you manage your work-life balance?
I thank God for my manager and family, they help me out in more ways than you know. To be honest I am still trying to figure out how to do a lot on my own. I’m 23, I have time. I have given myself til 32 before I reassess what I am doing with chaotic self haha.
What is your favorite meal?
French Fries and Veggie Dumplings in one meal, at the same time. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Life changing.
What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?
That I am very much introverted. Yes, people see me heading out and about and having fun and experiencing cool things, but I honestly love nothing more than sitting in my room reading, sewing or playing piano by myself because I feel like I can breathe and recharge.
If you weren’t doing the job you have now, what would you be doing?
Maybe Formula One racing. That would be sweet. Or I would be a florist, they seem to have the most fun.
What is something on your bucket list?
To be a mascot at an NFL or NBA game… I’ll accept a college game too ha. I also have always wanted to spend the day with Yohji Yamamoto, he’s one of my favourite designers and we share the same birthday.
Have you ever had an extraordinary experience? Describe it!
I have had so many it’s crazy. One that I thought was pretty neat was sneaking court side at the NBA Playoffs. It was my very first NBA game. Clippers vs Jazz 2017 at the Staples Centre. It was mainly just to see Kevin Hart. Going from the nose bleed section to floor level seating was totally insane! There was more to it post game but let’s just leave it at that hey haha. It was worth every immature cell in my body.
Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere really. Online, street art, my mum is a total muse for life in general. I just pick up on bits and pieces as I go along and try to use them in different aspects of my life.
