The Toxic Love Slayer

Mayra Beltran

Introduce yourself! Who are you?
My Name is Mayra Beltran, or Mayra Beltran Love.  I’m a Writer, Toxic Love Coach, and Reiki Healer.

Did you always know what you wanted to do as a career?
Yes and No. I always knew that I wanted to be a writer, but was so scared to say I did. I was always afraid of what my parents would say. In college, I thought I’d take a stab at nursing, but then realized that I wasn’t into chemistry or microbiology. Life has taken me on so many twist and turns, and I now realize that we don’t have to be ONE thing. We are multipreneurs & multi Passionate. This is what makes us unique.

Were you scared to start the process?
I was terrified! I’ve always let my ego get the best of me, and felt that my family would think I’m crazy.  I’ve always been afraid of what people might think.

What is one thing no one really knows about you?
Nobody really knows that it can be very hard for me to be vulnerable around members of the opposite sex.  I feel like there’s a wall up that makes it hard for them to get close.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
My dad always told me that “In a relationship, the number one thing that couples fight about is money.  He said, once there is money troubles, the love and respect can go out the door. Make sure you save for a rainy day, invest, and don’t live above your means.”  This is something that I hold close to me.

What would you say to 16 year old you?

Have you ever had anyone doubt you? How did that make you feel?
Yes, most of my relationships have been toxic.  The men that I chose to involve myself with always had this thing where they doubted me.  They seemed to care about me and my dreams, but never fully supported me. I even had an ex told me that I was “Stupid” for wanting to be a writer.  He said, “Who do you think you are? Another Carries Bradshaw?”

What message do you think every woman should hear?
Listen to your gut! Yes, that voice inside of you. That’s your intuition.  We have been programed to think that the little voice inside of you isn’t real.  Take some time to journal, meditate, and open up that third eye! It’s the best thing that all women can do.  We all possess the answers we are seeking. Your intuition is waiting for you.

Have you always had confidence in yourself?
No.  Confidence has been something that I continue to work on daily.  It comes easy for some people, but for me, it’s taken my lots of internal work.  Some days are great, others aren’t, but as long as I remain mindful of it, I can keep it in check.

What do you love most about yourself?
My ability to bounce back from the darkness.  My ability to find the light inside myself and hold onto it through the shadows. Even when I thought I wouldn’t make it, I held on to that light and kept walking.

Do you remember a specific time you overcame adversity?
The time when I left that Toxic Relationship. The aftermath of it was one of the biggest hurdles I had to overcome. The breakup was only the first step.   There were so many more factors involved. It took a toll on my self-esteem, family life, and the way I trust people.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?
For me, accepting that my family dynamic consisted of  my two boys, and I. This is my family. I needed to STOP trying to make us into something we weren’t.  I so desperately wanted to have a family (Husband, Wife, Kids, Pets) that I was missing the fact that I already had a family, and they needed me!

What motivates you most?
My children.  I want to provide the best life I can for them.  This is why I push myself, and dive into so many projects. All I want to do is just love on them, spend time with them, and help others along the way.

How do you manage your work-life balance?
Recently, I’ve been working from home. This is not as glamorous as people think. It takes lots of discipline to work and then put the computer away. I TRY not to post on social media on the weekends too often. I put work away unless I have a Reiki session booked or theres something that needs my attention.

What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
Journal! This is the best thing that anyone can do to find inspiration and motivation. Write! Write ! Write!

Do you have a mentor? If so, what did they teach you?
I have a few mentors.  My spiritual teachers. They’ve taught me to believe in myself always! They push me to let go of the past, to stop holding on to it and to move forward.  They’ve taught me so much and have showed me the door to this new phase in my life.

What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?
I don’t speak up sometimes because I don’t want to hurt anyone. It’s hard for me to say no.

Who is your biggest role model? Why?
My Mother! She has taught me everything there is to know about being a  Badass mom! She doesn’t hold back! She’s a fighter! And I just wish that I can be as strong as she is.

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in my intuition. In Nature. Looking out my window and seeing the birds, and trees.  Things that bring me joy, bless me with inspiration.

What are your biggest passions?
Writing.  I Love healing people with my words.
