Introduce yourself! Who are you?
I’m Lily, a lover of smiles, mac and cheese, laughter, and people! I work at a record label, edit short films in my spare time, and aim to make every day the best day yet.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
If you know what you want to make of your life, make it – no matter the risk, no matter the unknown – and don’t listen if people say you can’t. They don’t know you like you know you. It’s never too late to start on a new path if the path’s finish line is where you want to be in the end.
What would you say to 16 year old you?
Let yourself live in every sense, and embrace all that you do. Embrace your curiosities, and let the world and your surroundings provide you with the answers naturally. Embrace love, as lessons will come whether it ends in happiness, heartbreak, or even uncertainty. Embrace your mistakes, and know that they will build you to be the person you are on your way to becoming.
Have you ever had anyone doubt you? How did that make you feel?
When people doubt me, it only motivates me to prove them wrong. I don’t feel the need to verbally defend myself, as I think the doubters get the most impactful wake-up calls when they see with their own eyes that they were wrong – especially when the doubt stemmed from the fact that I’m female. It’s a win for all of us in those cases!
What message do you think every woman should hear?
Your DNA does not determine your strength. It’s not a quality of which we were born with less than others. Strength can lie in skill, in physique, in intelligence, in humor, in pride, in grief, in love, and in more, and we have all the tools to achieve it in every aspect possible. The concept of gender inequality was devised by one single thing with no logical foundation – a social construct.
What is your favorite thing about where you live?
LA is the perfect balance of work-hard and play-hard! Relaxation and entertainment are consistently just blocks away from one another.
What do you love most about yourself?
I like to see the good in people and situations and embrace every moment of life. Whether it’s a funny conversation I’m having with a friend or a minute of peaceful silence on top of a mountain, I will never have these seconds again. I live each moment to the fullest, so that my fondest memories are strong and locked up for life!
What motivates you most?
Every day, I feel motivated in knowing that so long as I work hard on my craft, maintain strong relationships with those around me, and don’t lose of sight of where I want to be in 20, 30, or 40 years, I will live my happiest possible life – and with that motivation, I can look forward to what’s ahead. In my mind, it’s as simple as that.
How do you manage your work-life balance?
I manage my work-life balance with a self-care mentality. I like to work hard and put my all into my career, but I won’t push it to a point of disallowing recreational time for myself and weakening my relationships with those I love. Self-care is key… It’s all about striving for that balance of being a badass woman and living life to fullest!
What is your favorite meal?
If I could eat mac-n-cheese with a side of pizza and another side of chips and another side of assorted cheeses and an additional side of pizza every day, I totally would.
What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
Every morning, I’m reminded that today is yet another gift of 24 hours in which I have the ability to strengthen my life in any way I choose.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find my inspiration in people and in art. Art induces emotions, recollections, and curiosities, and I like to let those drive whatever it is I am creating, whether it’s a film piece, a musical arrangement, or just a general idea. I’m also surrounded by people of all different backgrounds with all different stories, and to learn as much as I can about everyone with whom I cross paths is to potentially gain admiration and life lessons that could guide, encourage, and inspire me for the rest of my life.
What are your biggest passions?
While my career-based passions are music and filmmaking, my greatest passion of all is happiness. Happiness makes the world go around! It’s the core of human relationships, a shared desire amongst all, and a sentiment that connects people in even the most unexpected circumstances. Being happy, seeing others being happy, and making people happy are the best feelings. The power of a smile is wild.
