What are the things that you absolutely love, cherish and enjoy about being a new Mother?
The love and wonder! I have 3 little girls and they bring so much joy and love to our life. There is so much wonder and excitement involved with watching them grow and learn to do new things. My youngest is 18 months, and just watching her learn to walk, to talk, to piece together parts of her life, it is such a gift to be able to see her learn to do this and grow into her own person. My girls remind me to slow down and really appreciate the small things in life.
What things are most difficult about being a new Mother?
The unrelenting nature of motherhood. There are always so many mundane things that need to be done every day. I also find the constant giving of energy outward tough. You can get to the end of an amazing day with your children and just feel so touched out and exhausted- even though it was actually a great day. I also found the changes to my body, feeling heavy and weak, especially in the first few months postpartum. I found that really hard.
Tell us a story about a moment that really made an impact on you as a new Mom!
I can’t think of one moment, but rather a cumulation of moments. I have always run my own business as well as being a Mum, and often I work from home. So my work time and family time often blend into each other. There was a point where I was working, my girls were crawling all over me, and I had a million and one pieces of housework to get through. It was a disaster and I felt like I wasn’t doing anything well. I decided to create much greater boundaries around my work and home life. So that when I work, I am fully present in my work (as much as possible) and when I am with my girls, I am fully with them. It made such a difference to my motherhood journey.
