Believe in Something
With Jacqui Rosshandler
Introduce yourself! Who are you?
Hi I am Jacqui Rosshandler, an Aussie based in New York for the last 17 years. I am a mama, a wife, a business owner and quite a lot of fun when I’m not pregnant.
What is one thing no one really knows about you?
That I have a law degree! I finished law but never sat the bar and went straight into business.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Listen to your gut. It’s almost always right.
What would you say to 16 year old you?
Don’t worry so much! Life is good when you don’t need to worry about bills and health and babies. And don’t worry so much about school grades. You wont remember half the facts you learn – it’s much more important to actually enjoy the experience of learning.
What is your greatest fear?
That something will happen to my kid/s. Once you have one, all you do is try and keep them alive and healthy.
Have you ever had anyone doubt you? How did that make you feel?
Of course. I’ve had partners in love and business doubt me. I’ve probably had parents, family and friends more quietly doubt me too. Sometimes they might be right but I try not to dwell on that and just do the best I can. If I believe in something it takes a lot more then people’s doubt to change my mind.
What message do you think every woman should hear?
Women are incredible. We have so much more strength than we think we do.
What is your favorite thing about where you live?
I love Soho, NY. During the week, the quiet cobblestone streets are a great place to wander along, grab a coffee and people watch. We have lots of parks nearby, the hudson river (my happy place) is just a short stroll away and there are lots of cute cafes and restaurants to enjoy.
What do you love most about yourself?
I want to say my energy although lately I don’t feel all that energetic! I hope I make people feel good about themselves. I like to give a good compliment and I really do enjoy the company of others.
Do you remember a specific time you overcame adversity?
I ended a 10 year relationship. That was pretty difficult! But I survived and it made me stronger.
What motivates you most?
I am lucky to be very self motivated. It’s not money or success that really motivates me, I simply enjoy creating things and I like the struggle and challenges that are involved in starting companies.
How do you manage your work-life balance?
I have an excellent work-life balance and that’s very important to me. I generally work from home or from a club nearby and schedule my meetings and calls for when my kid is at school so I can focus on her when I am with her. Working for myself also means that I can travel or be flexible with my schedule and work at nights or on weekends if necessary. Yes it makes it harder sometimes because you can never set the “out of office” on your email or really switch off but you can always work from beside a pool and I value that over taking solid time off. It also means I am always engaged in both family and work and I love that.
What is your favorite meal?
Dinner. Breakfast and lunch are never that exciting for me. I just kind of eat to live but for dinner I can live to eat.
What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
I love to exercise. For me it’s very much my time to focus on something other than work and family and I find it almost meditative. If I can work out in the morning, the rest of my day just feels easier to tackle.
What is something on your bucket list?
I love to travel and explore other cultures. My current bucket list places are Japan, Portugal and I’d love to return to India some day.
What are your biggest passions?
Kids accessories! Littlecrownsnyc.com is my newest baby and it is THE destination for kids accessories that actually fit and GROW with your child.
More About Jacqui
An Aussie export turned New Yorker, Jacqui Rosshandler is the proud owner of 2 companies, a 2.5 year old toddler and a newborn baby. When she’s just “Jacqui” she enjoys a good drink and a good laugh.
Her job as President of Jacquii LLC is to spread confident, kissable breath. Looking up at the mountains of Verbier, and feeling not so fresh after a, shall we say “spirited” New Year’s eve, she wished there was a breath freshener that worked internally, was all natural and fun to use. Over the next 3 years she created a boutique version of the product, selling in niche stores, as well as on global websites Amazon, Victoria Health, and Shopmasc.
In 2010, Jacqui met the former CEO of Topps Arthur Shorin, who “got” the product instantly, and a new growth chapter began. Together they will not stop until every person in the world can eat whatever (including onion and garlic!) and feel confident and kissable when they get that late night bootie call.
Her latest venture, Little Crowns NYC is all about accessories that actually fit (and then grow!) with your child. Co-Founders Jacqui Rosshandler and Ross Goodhart struggled to find chic accessories that actually fit the special kiddos in their lives. So together, they set out to design a line of accessories worthy of the smallest Kings and Queens amongst us – Little Crowns NYC. Hailing from Australia and Hawaii, Jacqui and Ross (respectively) wanted to ensure that each piece contains a little Aussie and West Coast vibe but maintains the fit and function needed for the NYC hustle. We believe the children are our future (thanks Whitney), so a portion of the proceeds from every piece sold goes to a children’s charity that’s close to our heart. Check out our “Giving Back”page for more information on our current projects.
