Your Life Is Important

with Hannah Mac

Introduce yourself! Who are you?
Hey there, I’m Hannah Mac! I’ve been the owner of my business Design by Hannah for 7 years. I create websites that give you confidence, and I help girl bosses learn how to crush their goals. I am a newlywed to my incredible husband Pete, and we recently moved from Nashville, TN to Seattle, WA with our two dogs Mal & Moo. Before I started my business I was in the music industry for 10 years. Besides being in love with my husband I am also in love with the outdoors and go backpacking & hiking every chance I get!

Did you always know what you wanted to do as a career?
When I was 7 years old I knew I wanted a career in the music industry. After 10+ years in the music industry I had no idea that I’d eventually have my business Design by Hannah. It’s amazing to me how our careers can grow and transform beyond what we can imagine!

Have you always had confidence in yourself?
At the age of 7 I knew that I wanted to have a career in the music industry as a performer and songwriter — I have always been determined to succeed and I built up a resilience at a young age which helped me get back up every time I was faced with adversity. I have definitely experienced moments of low confidence but I have found that in those times the most crucial practice I can put into play is being my biggest cheerleader. Part of being confident is not waiting for someone to make you feel confident, it’s being able to make ourselves confident.

What motivates you most?
What motivates me the most is hearing other peoples stories. I find so much inspiration and motivation hearing how people got from one place in life to the next. Stories of endurance and hardship, stories of failure and resilience. Not only do other peoples stories give me new perspective, it also gets me out of my own head and allows me to focus on something bigger than myself.

I listen to podcasts like this every morning at the gym. My fave podcasts currently:
Super Soul Conversations — Oprah
Phil in the Blanks — Dr. Phil

How do you manage your work-life balance?
I manage my work-life balance by setting clear and realistic priorities.
I have to intentionally set time aside to reorganize my priorities at the beginning of every week. I also make sure to schedule everything — whether it’s a client phone call or a date with my husband, having it set in stone in my calendar commits me to keeping it a high priority.

What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
In this current season I have a four hour morning routine that keeps me growing and moving forward. The routine includes: a workout, a healthy breakfast, time to journal + meditation and time to respond to comments on my socials. I also spend a lot of time reading books that really help my self development.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way was in the Nashville BNA airport in 2011. I was sitting with my Mom and my mentor Tim Johnson who was dying of cancer. In his career Tim was a hit songwriter and producer, and he said to me “I would give up all of my awards and achievements for more time here with my family.”

When it all comes down to it, our relationships is what matters most in this life— not the success, not the money, not the material things. Family matters. Friends matter. Our spouses matter.

What message do you think every woman should hear?
A message I believe every woman should hear is this: your dreams and goals are not insignificant — every goal, every vision you have for your life is important. The world needs what you have to offer and you are capable. You are strong, you are important and you can start today.

What is something on your bucket list?
The next big thing on my bucket list is hiking up El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. I have been inthralled with El Cap for a couple of years now and I cannot wait to stand in its glory!

What is your favorite meal?
My favorite meal, that I could eat every single day forever, is pizza! I have always loved pizza and I always will. And if you’re wondering, yes…I am a pineapple on pizza person!
