Keep Going and Don't Be Afraid
With Gayle Dillman
Introduce yourself! Who are you?
I’m the founder and owner of Gable Music Ventures, and co-creator of the Ladybug Music Festival; the largest celebration of women in music. I’m also a mother of two, an advocate for children and I am passionate about establishing gender equality in the music business.
What is one thing no one really knows about you?
People don’t think I existed before Gable Music Ventures, but there were many iterations of my professional life prior to being an entrepreneur.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Never let your age, or where you are in life, define you. Whether you’re 21 or 81, it’s OK to reinvent yourself.
What would you say to 16 year old you?
Life is going to change. Good or bad, whatever moment you’re in will pass. Keep going and don’t be afraid.
What is your greatest fear?
Being idle…I’m driven to contribute and be creative.
What message do you think every woman should hear?
More is more for everyone…collectively we are all stronger.
What do you love most about yourself?
My adaptability (laughing). I continue to embrace new journeys in my life.
What are you known for?
Being strong, purposeful and direct. Being willing to fail and fail fast…and get back up quickly!
Where do you find inspiration?
I find real inspiration in the history of people’s stories. Everybody has a story and I’m inspired by their journeys: creation, growth, getting knocked down and grinding it out to achieve a dream. Like the sixteen year old kid who’s writing and performing music. That inspires me.
What is the biggest thing you’ve learned along the way?
Don’t be afraid to ask.
Last good book you read: Little Women is an all-time favorite, along with the poetry of Robert Frost and Robert Lewis Stevenson. I could quote you lines!
Last good movie you saw: Bohemian Rhapsody. For all musicians there was a point in history when they weren’t successful. It inspires me to learn the history from which someone came. There are no overnight success stories.
Favorite word: I have three: patience, persistence and perseverance.
