I think fear is a natural part of moving closer to your truth and stepping into your power in the world. Every expansion and growth in my career has always come with an element of fear – which really comes from shifting from the known to the unknown. It’s impossible to explore new territory or become a different version of ourselves if we don’t have fear. Nowadays, when I feel scared to do something, that’s when I say to myself “okay lady. This is a good sign. Because it means you’re takings risks and growing!” Each time we move towards our fear, we step beyond it. And beyond fear lies confidence and a deeper understanding.
I used to have a debilitating fear of speaking in public – even just sitting in a classroom of people and raising my voice. And if it came to having to do a public talk, I was in absolute pieces.
But I’ve always known that on the other side of this fear was confidence – that actually educating people is a gift I have, and the part of me that knew this was the part that feared it.
Although I may be scared to take the leap at times, I’ve always had confidence in my own ability and intellect. With that being said, I used to lack confidence when it came to being seen and heard by others. This is because underneath it all, although I have always known I am capable and intelligent, I didn’t really know who I was. I didn’t believe and trust in myself and I didn’t have much real confidence. I used to think that not being a confident person was just the way I was.
I needed to learn that confidence is not a personality trait; it’s not something we either have or we don’t. It’s a skill. In fact – it’s really a verb! We cannot have it if we refuse to build it. And the only way we build confidence is by taking risk – by doing the things that we think we’re not “confident enough” to do!
Every morning when you wake up, you have the chance to start creating yourself; to shift from negative habits of behaviour that keep you small and sorry and stuck, to new habits that align with how you truly want to show up in the world. To move from dysregulation, chaos and disconnect, to balance, resilience and joy. All you have to do is educate and empower yourself and make small, simple adjustments to your behaviour each day; consistently. And then – before you know it – you’ll look back to the person you were before and realise that a whole new world has appeared.
Claire’s life’s mission is to help you unlock the power of your mind so you can create the life you want to live.
