You Are Worthy

Carine Calixte

Introduce yourself! Who are you?
Hello beautiful people!! My name is Carine and I’m a believer in Christ, a momma to 2 beautiful boys. I love my family and friends hard and I can cook my butt off!

What is one thing no one really knows about you?
When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a Sister of St. Joseph (nun.)

What is it like to be a plus size model?
Representation and shattering the “standard of beauty” truly matters to me. So being able to model and show beauty in the form of a Black size 18/20 woman is everything to me.

What message do you think every woman should hear?
That you matter, that you are stellar and that you are amazing. We are all blessed that you are here with us.

Were you scared to start modeling?
In the beginning, I was because I was allowing my insecurities get the best of me. I had to realize that I was enough and that I needed to embrace the way I looked and showcase that in order to inspire others and for them to see themselves in whatever I was featured in.

What do you love most about yourself?
I love how I love people. I love my heart!

What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
I pray. I’m the type of person who tends to fixate on something and try to break it apart and figure it out from all angles and that can get mentally exhausting! So I’m constantly asking God to not allow the sun to set on “Insert emotion/issue” so I won’t dwell.

What would you say to 16 year old you?
That you are a lot stronger than you think. You are going to face some tough times but it will work out. You have to take care of you and love on you because you deserve it!!

Do you remember a specific time you overcame adversity?
When I was going through my divorce. It was such a tough time in my life it was so ugly and sad because we had these beautiful kids mixed up in it. I took that time to pour into myself and get my mind right in order to get my kids right!

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?
To take care of you! SELF CARE!!!! Self care is not limited to getting a mani/pedi or slathering yourself with your favorite lotion or having a facial. Self care can also mean having a good cry, getting something off your chest, not allowing toxicity to penetrate your sacred space, praying and saying no. Take care of yourself however you need to because you are worthy.
