What Is The Biggest Thing You've Learned Along The Way?
With Becca Silverstein
Introduce yourself! Who are you?
Hello there! I’m Becca, a crazy dog mom and mental health therapist living in Brooklyn, New York.
Recently, I’ve started my own private practice in psychotherapy, where I move away from traditional talk therapy interventions and incorporate yoga, movement, and a holistic approach to mental health.
I’m a huge advocate for spending money on travel and experiences rather than the latest trend. Come get to know me a little better…
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I ever received was from my Dad. He said “Bec, if you study hard, work hard, everything will fall into place”… And he was right.
What message do you think every woman should hear?
YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR BODY. Every woman on this earth is strong, smart, and capable of anything they put their mind to.
What is your favorite thing about where you live?
My favorite thing about New York is the immense diversity and cultures that have all melted together.
What do you love most about yourself?
I love the amount of empathy in my heart. I feel like I can sit with a person for less than ten minutes and truly feel how they are feeling, and try my hardest to connect with them. This can also be flipped to my biggest flaw because I tend to care a little too much.
What is the biggest thing you’ve learned along the way?
The biggest thing I’ve learned along the way is that accidents happen, and we are all human. I will never try to be perfect, I will just try to do better every chance I get.
Why do you love to travel?
Ah! I love immersing myself in other cultures, and learning about new traditions, religions, and customs. Traveling also humbles me beyond words.
How do you manage your work-life balance?
YOGA! Moving meditation allows me to disconnect from my emotionally driven work, and helps me get centered to my self. Yoga has transformed the way I live completely.
What is your favorite meal?
Pepperoni Pizza. I can eat an entire pie on my own, don’t test me.
What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
Easy.Breathe. If you are breathing, you are surviving and growing.
If you weren’t doing the job you have now, what would you be doing?
I would TOTALLY be a wildlife veterinarian. I love animals way more than I like people. When I was growing up I remember planning my wildlife rescue reservation.
What is something on your bucket list?
I really want to go sky diving in another country.
Have you ever had an extraordinary experience? Describe it!
I traveled to Kenya three years ago and had the chance to teach yoga to a small orphanage. It was all so informal, but the kids loved it so much. I remember so vividly the excitement for learning. All of the children were so focused and enthusiastic about learning something new. It was the most beautiful thing. I wonder about these kids often, and am reminded that the simplest of things can bring joy.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in my work, and with my clients. They tell endless stories and put their trust in me which is an inspiration hard to put into words.
