Always Focus on the Positive

Autumn Knight

Introduce yourself! Who are you?
Hi! I’m Autumn Knight. I’m an Electropop artist based in Nashville. I’m originally from LA and will always be a California girl at heart. I just released my debut album HERE AND NOW. I love music and the arts.

Did you always know what you wanted to do as a career?
I’ve always known from a very young age that music, singing and performing was my calling. I started writing original songs piano & vocal at age 13. I also starred in Musical Theatre productions and fell in love with acting too. Singing was always a part of my heart and soul. When I attended Berklee College of Music and studied vocal performance & songwriting. I knew then that I was destined to have a career in the music industry.

Were you scared to start the process?
I was never scared; it’s always been a natural thing for me. As a child I was singing and dancing all the time. Always performing. It’s something I’ve always found joy in doing & are definitely god given gifts. Sometimes I get butterflies before getting on stage, which is totally normal. But, once I hit the stage, I’m at home.

What is one thing no one really knows about you?
I take long walks to clear my mind and be meditative. It helps my creative process and workflow when things get busy. Self-care and recharging is so important. Especially mind, body spirit right before getting on stage for a performance.

Do you remember a specific time you overcame adversity?
Both of my parents tragically passed 3 years apart from one another. The whole thing did not make sense and circumstances we’re unbearable. But I had to tap into a strength I didn’t even know I had. I had to grow up much faster than most. I wish every day that they could be here physically. Those hard times make me the artist and woman that I am. I want to be a shining light in the world and remind people that no matter what you can move forward. It is my calling to continue to share my music and uplift others.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Always focus on the positive.

What would you say to 16-year-old you?
You are amazing! Continue to get the music out there. Audition for that show. Write that song. And most important, enjoy the journey. Music is supposed to be fun, so even if it’s a career, it’s so important to keep that spirit. Otherwise your fans & audience can feel it. Continue to always be true to your inner voice.

Have you ever had anyone doubt you? How did that make you feel?
I’ve had people project their insecurities on me, which can temporarily play tricks with your mind. But I’ve learned to overcome. My song “Unbreakable” is all about that. When I was younger, it would make me sad. I have the wisdom now to know the difference between my energy and what I like to call an “energy vampire”. There is room for everyone to succeed. Instead of being competitive, let’s lift each other up!

What message do you think every woman should hear?
Be strong & fearless. Women move ahead so much quicker when we empower and support one another. Don’t be afraid to be unique and don’t compare yourself to others. We are all on our own journey.

Have you always had confidence in yourself?
When I was a teenager, I know I dealt with highs and lows just like most teenage girls. But, as I grew into an adult, I became more and more comfortable in my skin every day. I’ve always been a free spirit. Now I can say that I’m super comfortable in my own skin, and I want to be a positive example for the younger generation to do the same.

What do you love most about yourself?
My heart, empathy, health, ability to sing, write & perform. I’ve always had a strong sense of myself, and no matter what, I have the ability to overcome anything and focus on the positive.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?
Always be kind. You never know what someone is going through. Be compassionate and come from a place of love.

What motivates you most?
Wanting to share a higher message with the world. I want to be able to give back and have my own charity foundations. My goal is to have music programs at teen homeless shelters across the country. Music has the power to heal. Performing has always been in my soul. Our live shows when we are touring is going to be the best time for us and our fans.

How do you manage your work-life balance?
Self-care. My touring schedule is going to be next level, so it’s really important to get proper sleep, exercise and take time to recharge the mind, body & spirit.

What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
I write down my lists and take action. But, also take time to visualize & meditate.

Do you have a mentor? If so, what did they teach you?
mind body spirit: Wayne Dyer. I grew up reading his books. He always taught me the power of your mind.
Artist: Lady Gaga. She is the real deal. Love the power in her voice and to be a pop star but also rock it on piano, is so amazing. Love the “A Star is Born” movie. My goal is when the right projects come to fruition, be acting in movies similar. So wonderful that she is a singer and also an actor. She has taught me the time importance of showing your range as an artist.

What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?
My new music video for “No Wasted Time” was shot entirely on an iPhone. The making of the music video was extraordinary and super symbolic for me.

Who is your biggest role model? Why?
My Grandfather. He is completely self-made and has always taught me the importance of giving back and taking the time to help others.

What are your biggest passions?
Singing, songwriting, acting, and giving back. Enjoying life and inspiring others. Healing the world with my music.
