What Message Do You Think Every Woman Should Hear ?

With Meghan Santana

Introduce yourself! Who are you?
Hi my name is Meghan Santana! I am the owner of two companies one is a photography company (Chicka Artistica Photography) and the other one is an online boutique (Chicka & Co.) I am 20 years old turning 21 this summer, and I dropped out of college probably six months in because I decided to be my own full-time boss. I am obsessed with the show “The Office” and I do have a cat tattoo on my arm, that pretty much describes me in a nutshell.

Who would you say is your #1 inspiration?
My number one inspiration would definitely have to be Lara Casey, she is an amazing author and created a planner specifically just for goalkeeping I found her a year ago and just following her humble spirit has changed my life completely!

What is one thing no one really knows about you?
I am an open book so it’s really hard to think of something someone doesn’t know about me, I am insanely blunt with everything I believe in and feel on my social media’s. That does come in handy though because if anyone gives me a random present it’s always a Starbucks giftcard since I am open to my addiction with coffee, which is awesome. I think if there was one thing people don’t know about me, it would be that I struggle a lot with anger, I come across like a very positive and happy person-which I am-but I do go to therapy for that. I do use it as a benefit though, no one messes with me 😉

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Hands-down the best advice I’ve ever gotten is that I used to fear to do things because everyone is doing it. I always hated trendy things so I would fail to accomplish goals specifically because I felt like everyone else around me was doing the same thing. A very wise woman asked me: have you ever noticed how many people own your car? And I said yes actually I notice my car everywhere I go. And she continued to say: The reason you notice that is because you own the car, but not everyone has the same car as you. You just notice it because it’s on your mind. Same thing goes with careers and passions. It may seem like everyone’s doing what you’re doing but it’s just because that is your mindset, don’t ever not do something solely because you think everyone is doing it, they aren’t.

What would you say to 16 year old you?
If I got to talk to my 16-year-old self, I would tell her to stay away from a specific person my senior year of high school lol and also tell her all the dreams she has in her head right now will be succeeded by 2017 so not to worry! Stop. worrying.

What’s your dream job?
My dream job is exactly what I’m doing right now except bigger.

Have you ever had anyone doubt you? How did that make you feel?
When I decided to drop out of college about 80 to 90 percent of my family judged me a lot. And it wasn’t because of the actual decision I was making it was more of them not believing that I could actually do it successfully. And that really hurt me a lot because the friends and family who I thought believed in me, I realized didn’t at all. But now that I am succeeding in what I left college for it doesn’t bother me as much.

What message do you think every woman should hear?
A message that I found important to me and I think to all women, would be that it’s totally OK to grow slow. I would rather grow as a person comfortably then try and rush to succeed just because other girls around me are “ahead” Life isn’t short. It’s the longest thing you’ll ever do.

What is your favorite thing about where you live?
I just wrote a blog about this, but my favorite thing about where I live is that is 100% a small town. And the best thing about it is being able to build a clientele very easily and also no matter where I go I see someone I know! You don’t have to move to LA to become successful.

What do you love most about yourself?
My favorite thing about myself is that I am the best type of cocky. In this generation we encourage people to feel good about themselves but when they do we shame them for being selfish. And I go against that, I love myself so much that it makes other people angry towards me but I worked really hard to get to that type of self-confidence so I don’t care at all what anyone thinks.

Do you remember a specific time you overcame adversity?
Money has always been a big difficulty in my family growing up, but because of that it allowed me to be very educated in finance so I think going from broke to pretty well-off has been a very big overcoming of adversity for me personally.

Do you have a favorite photo of yourself?
This past Halloween I dressed up as Dwight Schrute from the office and that is hands down my favorite picture of me that’s ever been taken. (Posted below)

What motivates you most?
My biggest motivator is seeing my competition do better than me. If everyone was equally where I am I wouldn’t be as motivated to do bigger and better things.

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
This is such a hard question for me, I think my biggest achievement in business has been taking risks and starting a new, 2nd company from scratch.

What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
I pray a lot during the hard times and good times, I would never ever be able to move forward if it wasn’t for that.

What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?
I’m secretly very insecure but I’m very good at hiding it. Whenever I feel insecure I portray confidence because I believe that mindset controls your overall feeling so the more I portray confidence the more I actually end up feeling confident. Crazy right?

What is something on your bucket list?
Something on my bucket list would be to photograph a wedding outside of the United States or just somewhere really far away from where I live.

What are your biggest passions?
My biggest passions are anything related to art so painting, writing, photography, fashion, blogging, you name it.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
Biggest advice to other entrepreneurs would be no matter what you want to do, someone in the world will pay for it, so just do it.

So my first career as an entrepreneur is that I am a photographer. I have been a photographer since my junior year of high school, because I wanted extra money and hated working at Chick-fil-A haha. From there it grew into a huge thing and has blessed my life in so many ways, but then once I had a good income I decided to branch out of my comfort zone and do something I’ve always wanted to do! I had never had the opportunity to before. Start a clothing company. When I brought this idea up to people around me it was a shocker because I had never really mentioned it to anyone that I was interested in fashion this much. It was the biggest investment I’ve ever had to do in my life and was very scary because it could go really well or really bad. I took about four months to get it all up. I did all my research, I had a logo, I had clothing coming in before launch, I had to photograph all the clothing, create a website, create prices that weren’t too expensive but also created profit for me. So many things I had to do by myself but also had help from my dad as well. But all in all I was doing this from scratch by myself. I was a 20-year-old starting a huge company completely on a dream I had back when I was 14 years old.
I decided to then go even more out of my comfort zone and offer people to become Brand Ambassadors to better help me market the company around the U.S. When I launched the application I got over 100 applicants and decided on seven girls including one in California! Then we launched in August 2017, In four months we almost hit 10K in sales and have sold to people all over the U.S. including Hawaii, California, Texas, New York, Florida, everywhere! This company, no matter if it grows or doesn’t continue, has totally changed how I look at myself and basically change my life in general. I wanted to share this not for attention or for congrats but to show you that no matter how old you are or what your goal is. Anything is possible as long as the confidence and motivation is there.Never think you can do everything on your own-always seek help from anyone who is willing to offer it. You always will need help from someone so don’t take people for granted. Do what sets your heart on fire!
