"Inject humor where ever you can." There are some days that can be very frustrating as an entrepreneur. You'll hear "no" a million times and people will doubt you, but my dad always said to look for the humor in everything. If I can make myself laugh, it helps me not dwell on the negative and move forward.
Trust your instincts and if something doesn't feel right, it's okay to say "no," Turning down work that you don't think is in-line with your values or branding or not working with someone who makes you uncomfortable, is totally okay. You have to do what's best for you and your business.
What don't I love about myself? Just kidding! I pick myself apart all the time. I think I have an enthusiastic/bright personality that helps set me apart from others offering the same services. I really try to be as genuine as possible in business and my personal life!
Do you remember a specific time you overcame adversity?
I was offered an opportunity to work with a large company, but the CEO made several uncomfortable and sexual comments during our interview. It was early on in my business and I was nervous to turn down any work. Ultimately, I decided someone who would talk to me inappropriately during an interview, wouldn't stop be when it came to work.
What is the biggest thing you’ve learned along the way?
You're not going to "jive" (do people still use that word?) with all your clients. It's okay to tell them in an open and honest conversation that the relationship isn't working and it's best you both part ways.
How do you manage your work-life balance?
This is such a tough one. There's many nights when my husband comes home from work and we are sitting on the couch and I'm still working. We are sitting together, but not really connecting. I try to give myself a deadline on when I need to turn-off my laptop and put away my phone and just talk with my husband.
What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
Spreadsheets are my best friend!!! I have spreadsheets on when clients reached out, if we communicated and if it was successful. Then, I analyze everything!! Why didn't I land a client? How can I grow their social media accounts the next month?
What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?
I'm not into crowds of people. But what?? You could talk to a tree and become best friends. You're so energetic!! Well reader.. lots of people in a room makes me want to run away. I like bring in small groups because I feel like I can truly connect with people that way.
Where do you find inspiration?
Other female entrepreneurs!! It's amazing to see so many female CEO's and girlbosses crushing life!! I love it!!!
