What Do You Love Most About Yourself?

With Erikka Rainey

Introduce yourself! Who are you?
My name is Erikka Rainey, I am a social media marketer/content creator. I’m born and raised in Philadelphia and I also have a background in the music industry, having interned at RCA Records, written for publications Bandsintown and BlameEbro.com, and worked for a company called iStandardProducers as an Assistant A&R  and later becoming an event coordinator for the company as well.

What is one thing no one really knows about you?
Most people probably don’t know that I am pretty sensitive and wear my heart on my sleeve.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I ever received is that my blessing is right on the other side of my fear.

What would you say to 16 year old you?
I would tell my 16-year-old self to stop stressing yourself, you have everything you need to make it. Love yourself more, you are enough.

What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is not reaching my full potential and not being able to provide for myself and family a better life. Thinking about it, I think what that really is, is a fear of stagnation or complacency.

Have you ever had anyone doubt you? How did that make you feel?
I don’t know if anyone else has doubted me, but I’ve definitely have doubted myself or felt unsure a lot. Doubting myself always feels bad, but I can’t afford to stay in that place. I just keep going, because if it’s sink or swim, I have to swim.

What message do you think every woman should hear?
I think every woman should hear that they don’t need outside validation for anything. That they can be good wives, mother’s or career women on their own terms and not just through the lens of kids, husbands, or anyone else.

What is your favorite thing about where you live?
I’m back home in Philly, so the best thing is just that feeling of “home” and being so close to family and friends that really know and care about me.

What do you love most about yourself?
This was actually a hard question to answer. Too many times the loudest negative voice trying to bring us down can be our own (I’m working on that).  But I guess I love ,and am grateful for, that I still retain a bit of my child-like innocence, in that there’s a part of me that believes that miracles can happen and wishes do come true. The belief it takes of being able to have a vision and being crazy enough to go after it.

Do you remember a specific time you overcame adversity?
Honestly, I feel like I’m trying to overcome adversity every day, being an entrepreneur. I’ll probably have a heck of a story when I get on the other side of this journey.

What is the biggest thing you’ve learned along the way?
The biggest life lesson that I have learned along the way is to stop shortchanging myself. I’ve learned that if I believe in myself and follow my instincts, I’ll be good. Even if it ends in failure, I’m still good because I would have learned how to move smarter.

Why do you love to travel?
I love to travel because I love to see new places and also I love the food.

What motivates you most?
Legacy motivates me the most. I really want to have something for my family that lasts through generations. Generational Wealth.

How do you manage your work-life balance?
Honestly, barely. But sometimes I just make myself go out and be social. Just put it on my calendar and make myself do it. Or even put it as one of my monthly goals.

What is your favorite meal?
Well, I love Chinese, Pizza, beyond burgers, french fries, and Chick Fila. Not altogether or in that order.

What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?
I make sure I’m always open to new perspectives, new people and etc. I like to make sure I’m always open to learning and experiencing something new and not letting preconceived thoughts control my behavior.

What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?
People would probably be surprised to hear that I’m not as sure of myself as I seem. Like I’m learning as I go. I just don’t let any of that stop me.

If you weren’t doing the job you have now, what would you be doing?
Honestly, probably still looking for a job. I can’t imagine doing anything else than what I’m doing right now. Maybe that’s a good thing. Like I couldn’t just work at a regular job where I wasn’t able to use creativity. Anything I would do would be temporary.

What is something on your bucket list?
I would love to go to Egypt and go inside one of the pyramids.

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in movies, books, music, art…Anything where creativity is used, I love analyzing it and seeing how I relate it to my path and creativity.

What are your biggest passions?
My biggest passion is black culture. I love seeing so much content being produced by people of color. I love seeing our stories told through the lens of our culture. I just want to contribute to it in some way to continue to push us forward.
